Hi Pete and thanks for commenting. Very much enjoy your videos and your viewpoint on watches and the industry. Do you think WatchBoz is going to sell more watches by hiring Jack? Why do they feel they need to become content creators to sell (even) more wariches? Doesn’t Tim do more than enough to review/sell every new watch coming in the door and raise awareness of WatchBox through his live chats? I guess we’re going to have to see what they do with him in the next months to see how he’s going to add to the equation.

I've been enamored with that watch for some time too, especially the salmon dial and gray applied markers. I still think it's a beautiful watch, but I know what you mean about trying on a watch and feeling nothing. I have felt the same way about a) Omega Speedmaster,  b) Breitling Aerospace (titanium and feels way too light), and c) JLC Master Control models. To be honest though, I actually like it when I can get a watch out of my head. Once I know it's not for me, I can stop obsessing about it and move on. I actually do the same for cars once in a while.

Until he was drawn to the Dark Side? 😮

Without doubt this is a huge blow to Hodinkee. Many people have commented that their site has been going downhill in recent years but I haven’t felt the same way. For Forster to have left his position as the leader and figurehead to join a direct competitor seemingly in the dead of night with not a mention anywhere on Hodinkee implies something is very wrong there and / or WatchBox made and offer he “could not refuse“. If Hodinkee is a sinking ship, then the captain just dove off the side and climbed onto a new luxury yacht heading in the other direction...

I’m a little surprised he didnt have some sort of non-compete clause in his contract. To wake up and see Tim interviewing Jack yesterday morning welcoming him aboard was a shock to a lot of people, myself included. I think it would have been a lot classier on both of their parts if they had at least acknowledged his 5 years leading Hodinkee and thanked his former colleagues.

Regardless, I am happy for you Frankie and I’m sure he will contribute greatly to your team at Watchbox. I’ll be very interested to see how you employ his talents and knowledge.

Thanks for adding to the conversation Frankie! Can you explain how adding Jack to the team helps WatchBox? I go to the WatchBox site to browse watches, not for articles, reviews or watch commentary. Tim’s videos are informative but are still, in the end, aimed at selling watches. Is the goal to change what WatchBox is at a fundamental level to be a leading content creator and does that really enhance its ability to sell watches? I guess I’m having a hard time understanding what this big move brings both for WatchBox and for Jack Forster. He seemed a little ill at ease in Tim’s interview this morning and gave me the vibe “what am I doing here” or maybe that’s me. Im sure you noticed he wasn’t wearing a watch today. I think a lot of us observed when asked about his grail watch he didn’t mention the gold day date he had written about and talked about as being a grail and then had been given by Ben Clymer while at Hodinkee. The last time Tim made a big video announcement of a new watch commentator joining the team, things didn’t work out so well. Certainly very different people involved, but this move still strikes me as being not fully thought out on both sides. Would love to hear your views on this.
