I did that with a TSA Employee today actually, he was busy but was excited to receive the compliment. My thought is, we have nothing to loose. I think it's worth taking the risk of getting a dirty look in order to have a genuine conversation with someone.
Update: I got the watch. It is unworn just like the seller said. I got the battery swapped and the jeweler said it looked legit. This is definitely my favorite watch in my collection.
