The Bulova A15 Pilot Watch - A Vintage Gem with Timeless Appeal

Hello fellow watchcrunchers!

I recently had a fascinating experience that led me to discover a remarkable timepiece - the Bulova A15 Pilot Watch. Allow me to share my thoughts and experiences with this watch, which I purchased for my 29th birthday just four months ago.

Yesterday during a visit to a charming antique book store in Wiesbaden, I stumbled upon a small Japanese book dedicated to military watches. It was then that I had the opportunity to showcase my beloved Bulova A15 Pilot Watch, and I must say, it truly stands out from the crowd.

One of the standout features of this watch is its bold white numerals against the sleek black watch dial. The contrast is striking, making it incredibly easy to read the time at a glance. Additionally, the presence of two inner rotating bezels is a fantastic touch. These bezels allow you to effortlessly track elapsed hours and minutes, adding a layer of functionality that is both practical and impressive.

I discovered that the design of the Bulova A15 Pilot Watch was originally developed as a prototype for the US Army during the Second World War. While it never made it into full production, it has become a sought-after collector's item due to its historical significance and unique aesthetic.

Since acquiring this watch, I've been wearing it on a black NATO strap. The original brown leather strap was unfortunately too large for my smaller wrist, but I must say that the NATO strap complements the overall design flawlessly. It adds a touch of modernity to the vintage charm of the watch, creating a perfect marriage between old and new. The 24-hour scale in yellow on the dial further enhances this harmony, offering a delightful contrast that catches the eye.

As a proud owner of the Bulova A15 Pilot Watch, I can confidently say that it has become one of my most cherished timepieces. Its historical background, coupled with its striking design and practical features, make it a true gem in my collection.

If you're seeking a wristwatch with character, a touch of history, and an undeniable charm, the Bulova A15 Pilot Watch should undoubtedly be on your radar. It's a timepiece that celebrates the past while remaining relevant and stylish in the present.

I've got one of these! I added it to my collection because one of the internal bezels can be used as a GMT function (a personal obsession). It's definitely an unusual design, and I agree that the yellow accents pop out pleasingly.

Do the crowns controlling the inner bezels turn too easily as you're wearing the watch throughout the day?

I love the watch but the big concern I have is setting a timer, then going about my day and inadvertently moving crown/losing the timing.

I was concerned about it because Jody mentioned it in his video review. You can turn the inner bezels easily but during my wearing experience in the last months they did not turn. I think it depends how you wear the watch. Because I‘m wearing the watch on a thick zulu strap, there is enough distance between the crowns and my skin
