Vintage Golda Gold Dress Watch

Hello watchcrunch! I want to share with you me newest member in my watch collection.

Last sunday I visited a flea market and found this lovely Golda Automatic in definitely used condition. The platting of the case has worn off and the crystal has a lot of scratches. I'm a huge fan of typography on watches, especially with a 12, 3, 6 and 9 layout. Not only I enjoy the applied indices, but it wears also very well with its 35mm case.

Furthermore I was surprised to see german writings for waterproof and shockproof on the dial. The watch itself runs but did not probably have any service in the last decades. I paid 25€ for it. I will buy a new strap, because this one is in 16mm instead of 18mm and will change the crystal to have a better view on this lovely dial

Hope you enjoy the pictures! Cheers

What an amazing find. So lovely that you are going to show it some love and bring it back to life. ❤️

The internet is an amazing place.  Via a commenter on WUS: Golda was the brainchild of a fellow named Paul Benz who wanted to bring Swiss quality to the masses.  He named the watch after his hometown Goldach.  He started selling watches in the 1950's and continued until the seventies, usually focusing on emerging markets like Africa and Asia.  The GDR was often seen as a secondary market. (It is unusual to think of Germany this way today.)

The dang Explorer makes me think of cardinal arabics as a sport/adventure style. It's odd that dial text (the boasts or brags as they are) don't offend me so much on vintage dress watches as they do on modern beasts. Perhaps that's because they just say things more interesting to me. Nivaflex is an example. I get to look it up and find out it's an alloy used in mainsprings!

I'm not entirely sure what that stamping on the center of the case back is. Anyone?

What’s the movement like? Does the rotor have ball bearings, or is it the older style?

Love it!  Now you will add your own stories to it!!

It was the first time for me looking for vintages watches on a flea market and definitely not the last time!

I will ask my watchmaker if he can take a picture of the movement when he opens the caseback 👍

Nothing better than finding something like that, it's like winning the watch lottery.
