TUDOR: change of middle case in warranty causes a problem

Hi folks,

unfortunately my 4 months old Tudor watch was hit by waitress in a restaurant and I have to change the middle case because polishing can't solve it completely. Fortunately, the restaurant has an insurance so they will pay it all. But there is a question: the watch gets new serial number because of the new case. Because the watch is just a few months old, the warranty card will not match the numbers on the watch anymore. My AD doesn't know how to solve it and they're not sure if I get new warranty card (likely not because there's reference number as well on the card and the middle case is universal for a wide selection of watches). And if I would like to sell the watch anytime in the warranty period it could be a problem. Does anybody have this experience or know how is this solved by Tudor? The only thing I'm sure is that it'll be noted in Rolex/Tudor's online system where ADs have an access. But if someone wants to buy a watch, he/she doesn't have an access and have to go to visit AD and check it. And as a secondary market customer, I will likely not want to go to visit AD and check this strange situation...

Was replacing the case necessary? How bad was it damaged?

Not so bad but the watch was before the accident like new. The damage decreases the value by hundreds or even thousand of USD/EUR and more...and since I will not pay the repair, it completely make sense to me repair the watch.

Hmm if just scratched and smal dinks, if keep it it as it it and not have it replaced. The watch will pick up marks in general wear. To be honest it’s already taken a drop by a few hundred since you’ve purchased it.

Just keep it as a reminder and then when it’s finally due a service decide what to do then.

I've bought the watch for a very good price after some negotiation. And since then, the retail price increased twice. So the price I can eventually get can be close to price I paid. But its not the point. The point is the value is decreased no matter I keep it with damage or AD changes the middle case of the watch. And to be clear, all my watches, even few years old, looks like new, no major scratches or any damage.

You could be right but unless you got a stinking deal (I managed 20% 4yrs ago on my BB58 so just over £2k paid). I’ll think the second hand price will always be lower, price increases on RRP don’t correlate to second hand prices (in my experience). I’ll also expect further marks once you had the case replaced.

in my universe there is no problem for an aftermarket buyer to go into AD and check, it's always welcome. In general, I wouldn’t worry about a relatively cheap Tudor. Sorry, I’m talking about myself and I don’t know your situation. Judging by your messages, you are a very scrupulous person. and I'm almost sure that you will never part with this watch. I don’t know where I got such confidence from. change your body and sleep well. peace of mind is most important. And as a plus, you have a new building! and history, history will not be difficult to verify. Well, if you have to exchange your watch for bread, it will work anyway, even without history ;) P.S. We cannot give more useful recommendations, you will have to decide. If it's not an option to get a completely new watch, get a new case if that matters to you. I wouldn’t spoil the waiter’s mood and sort things out with the restaurant because... the waiter may suffer from this. but that's me. and you are you. and you have to live with it.
