I recently learned that a singer-songwriter named Shakira wrote lyrics implying that her cheating husband made the wrong choice. She decided she was a Ferrari/Rolex, superior compared to her husband’s new Renault Twingo/CASIO.
We have a phrase in Japanese 違いの分かる人 “one who knows what’s really what”. Apparently, the singer-songwriter doesn’t make herself fit this description. I do hope the so “cliche” and “nouveau riche” taste in her lyrics was just blurted out from anger.

I find it hard to relate either Shakira or Gerard Piqué to any of these brands.
Fun fact: After she came out with those lyrics, her ex Gerard Pique went on his popular Twitch stream show and handed everyone a Casio to wear.
