Post #33 Seikosha mainspring pendulum clock overhaul

I bumped into an old clock shop by chance at the Yaotsu Village. The village happens to be the birth place of the Japanese Empire diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who was honored by Israel as one of the Righteous Among the Nations for issuing thousands of transit visits for Jewish refugees during WW2.

The clock shop was founded in 1907 and the present 80 year old gentleman is the third generation proprietor. I waited for one and a half months to have my Seikosha clock overhauled. The almost 100 year old clock is now in pretty good shape, with only a few minutes delay per day. He stuck this little piece of paper on the back of clock and told me that the warranty period is limitless, until he dies.

I’m in Himeji and Kobe every year and love this old thing that hangs in a small leather shop I usually visit. Very cool that you keep yours in good shape.
