I decided to take a look inside my Orfina Porsche Design Chronograph 1 only to discover that the gasket was “melting”, glistening and sticky. Now I’ve got to do a very careful clean up and gasket replacement. I’ve seen dry and crumbling ones but not in this condition, in progress of melting, so to speak. 😔

I bought it in 1985, so minimum 38 years old.
Cool watch, with that amplitude could do with a service as well as new seals!
That's a very cool watch.
Just curious, is the watch horizontal or vertical with that amplitude? I think the lift angle for valjoux 7750 is 49 deg so make sure your timegrapher is set to that and that the watch isn't in the middle of a day/date change.

Yes, I am thinking of that. Unfortunately I’ve got some more pieces in the pipeline (stand by for repair/OH). Will probably have to skip the queue for this time piece. 😔

It was set at 52°, measured at around 14:00. I tried it at 49° and the amplitude dropped to 176°. I am going to send it to a watchmaker once our Golden Week holidays are over. Not expensive but one of the few gems of my hodgepodge collection. I’ve so many other watches with lower amplitudes😉.

I would like to learn about the lift angle. Any recommended reads?

Thank you.
The gaskets were like that when I had my Autavia serviced, it seems to happen when they get super old.
Love the Porsche design watch too! I got one earlier this year.
