Me Lady's Growing Watch Collection

She's a simple and beautiful lady. Her charming smile could've easily landed her in many ads for various beauty products. She said she turned down some offers in the past, since she does not like being seen in public.

She's not into jewelry. She's also not a bag nor shoes collector. She does love dresses, and she has lots of those. But watches?

Image

Before meeting me, she only had this Anne Klein dress watch given to her by her grandmother... and this Timex Tank.

Image

Like jewelry, she didn't really like wearing them, except to keep time when at work, or at a social gathering.

At first, she didn't understand why I started collecting watches back in October 2021. She just knew I got into the hobby.

Image

For Christmas 2021, I gave her this Seiko 5 SYMD93 with a lovely blue dial. She chose it from a shortlist I gave her. 😉

She loved it, and it looks really good on her. She uses it daily to work, and it's earned its own set of battle scars. I even had the crystal changed when it broke. :P Hardlex is not so hard after all with my lady, hehe. She also wore it to 2 spelunking trips with her girl friends.

This led me to get her a Timex Expedition Field Mini. She also chose it from a shortlist. 😉

She was attracted to the olive green dial, and the orange seconds hand. This was my gift to her for Christmas 2022.

Surprisingly, last week, she got herself another watch. She liked this Timex TWEL1150E because of its simplicity, legibility, and the subtle textured dial. What's more, Timex was on a mega sale, and this piece was 50% off! She's always keen on finding bargains and flash sales like that. No brainer, right? Hehehe...

Image

Before she bought it, she asked my opinion. I agreed with her excellent choice. It's a simple, diminutive, and lovely piece. Its polished case matches well with its polished flat applied hour numerals, alluring sunburst inner dial, and pretty skeleton leaf handset, and needle seconds hand.

Image

Its outlined date window is cool, and the 24H red inner markers are a nice pop of color. Finally, it has a lovely sunray-like textured outer sector dial.

Truth be told, she got this watch as a replacement daily work watch. She didn't want her Seiko 5 to get scratched or banged further, necessitating repair. She wanted to preserve it, and wear it only when going out with me. It was a gift she wanted to take care of. Her gesture was touching.

Image

Truly, she's a simple and beautiful lady, inside and out. And now, she has a 5 watch collection!

Image

How about your wife/ husband, girlfriend/ boyfriend, or S.O., do they also have a growing watch collection? What's currently in their watch box, and what are they eyeing to add?

If not watches, what is/are their growing collection/s?

My wife had 0 interest at all to ever where a watch. When I got into the hobby she was supper supportive buying me books and a few watches as gifts for holidays and birthdays. She told me she wouldn’t ever really be interested in watches for her self. Well, at least that’s what she thought.

I first watch I convinced her by showing her an HMT birth year watch and showed her a him and hers version we can both get since we are the same age. Done

Then I got into modding watches and when I started to custom build them I showed her the parts I could put together “incase one day she changed her mind” 😈 so 3 watches later I’m not working on her 4th watch parts to come in as we speak.

I over time got my wife a five watch collection whether she wanted it or not. 😂 She has a Tudor 1926, Seiko SPB143, Bulova Hack, Laco Jena, and DuFrane Marby.

·

My wife thinks her smart watch is the best thing ever. So I've turned to those I have more influence on. My daughters.

I've lured then in by giving then watches from our family. My youngest daughter now has three watches. They're hooked, they just don't know it yet. But resistance is futile.

That's a really good way to influence them. Receiving watches from family makes the timepiece more precious.

Ah it’s the ultimate dream, impregnating the mrs with horology…… beautiful.

·

Wife likes her fitbit.

I Did buy her a bunch of straps for it, which she enjoys.

·

My wife rocks her Apple Wrist Computer most days, which hopefully will change when her Xmas gift arrives. She doesn’t care about watches but I got her a couple this year to celebrate some professional milestones.

·

I love how your better half is taking this journey with you. My girlfriend has zero interest. She finds it just as boring as me taking about my job lol. I have bought her watches and she appreciates them but, she has no clue about brands and watch talk. Maybe one day. Enjoy my friend that is great😊

My wife is all in...I'm so lucky she appreciates everything mechanical (cars, watches etc)...can't wait til she gets her Christmas watch on the wrist

I have that same 36mm Expedition and I love it! Looks great on so many straps, simple, utilitarian, date complication, and Indiglo? That's a watch for getting sh*t done! 😁

I've recently gotten my partner into watches. She had an old Casio of her dad's and that was it. She showed interest in my collection, but that was it for a while. Then she bought herself a solar Expedition and I knew it was on! I've since bought her a Casio W217h and a nice, smaller case field watch. Now she's shopping for watches on her own and asking me when I'm doing another CNS order so she can get some new straps. 😂

I'd wager that if you gift her with a simple, non-expensive, yet lovely dress watch this Christmas, that she'd change her mind.

Me lady has little interest too about my watch hobby, but supports me when I take photos for WRUW. She even sends me nice IG posts of watches every now and then, to encourage taking good watch photos. Our common hobby is photography. And yes, as I wrote above, she does appreciate the watch gifts I've given her. She bought that new Timex so that she wouldn't scratch any further the Seiko 5 I gave her. But like your girlfriend, she too has no clue about brands. She's still more interested in dresses, fashion, and lingerie ;) I don't expect her to like watches nor start collecting. Yesterday though, she said that her having 5 watches now is my fault hahaha...

It's great when our partner shares in similar likes, right? My girlfriend and I enjoy photography. Whenever we go on our regular vacations, we take our camera gear and go on photo walks. We even have a monthly theme competition. ;)

The Expedition Scout is awesome, right? Totally agree with you re. what makes it so great. :)

Glad to hear too your partner is also now into watches. Really cool.

Next thing you know, she's buying more watches and straps than you! Hahaha...
