A tale of 2 field watches...

A month ago, I didn't even own a field watch. Now I own 2 🤦‍♂️. So far operation buy less watches in 2024 has been a complete failure. I think I'll give up on 2024 and concentrate on making myself better in 2025! And this time I'm serious!

To the non watch person, these 2 look very "similar" but these 2 are very different in good ways.

The Vaer dirty dozen is a 40mm homage to another era, it played a very important role in helping soldiers keep track of time during the war. They made the seconds hand smaller as to not confuse it with the hour hand when taking a glance at that watch. I got the larger size which I am very happy with. It's super comfortable and compact. The bracelet is well made and the AR coating is definitely better than the Hamilton. It's a great grab and go when I really don't want to fiddle setting the date.

The Hamilton is as iconic as field watches come. 42mm in size, it actually feels smaller. Even without AR it is very legible thanks to the monochromatic dial albeit kinda busy. I love watches that don't have a crown guard, they give out that vintage feeling that I've been craving for recently. And speaking of the crown, it's over sized and a pleasure to use. The bracelet is very solid and comfortable but the 2 holes of adjustment is ridiculous. I also like the red tip seconds hand. I'm convinced that Hamilton loves very long seconds hand.

All in all I am very happy with both watches and have no regrets with either.

So this is the story of why I even went into the jewlers yesterday. I had recently looked at their website and noticed that they started carrying new brands such as Tissot and Hamilton. I had really planned on having them service my Bell and Ross which i bought from them in 2012. I had known them since the late 90s. If you're ever in the area check out golden time in Redwood City. Good people there. The other watch that I tried on yesterday was this....

The real star of interstellar 🤭. Maybe I'll get it for my birthday, maybe I'll get it sooner 😬.

Nice choices, Chris!

The KFA (38mm) is one of my staples. It can take any strap and look good, and can be worn in most situations. Lotta memories with mine.

I’ve been looking at both of the watches you own. Glad to hear you’ve had good experience with both and they both look amazing 🤩. I haven’t seen the other Hamilton you’ve got pictured but I have to say I’m smitten with it as well. I wish you luck on future “operation” and the upside is now you’ve got two military inspired field watches to go into battle with! 🤣

As a previous owner of the Hamilton Khaki Field and current owner of the Vaer Dirty Dozen and the Cooper, I can only support the direction you’re headed, even if it is a different direction than your original plan for 2024 🙂

Nice choices! I'm only starting to familiarize myself with #vaer & their designs / models. For me, though the #hamilton Kahki Field is definitely a classic, I would say that the #vaer dirty dozen homage fits my style and taste more than the khaki field. Both are fantastic watches!

I keep thinking about the Hamilton, but on every front my #vaer keeps pulling me back.
