Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

Once my grandfather was wearing an analog watch with pushers. He showed me that those pushers actually activated the seconds hand and reset it when done. I was amazed by it and thought it was really really cool, so I told him so. Right then and there he took it off his wrist and gave it to me. That’s what started it all. Later I found out that watch was actually called a “chronograph”, and it was part of the Eco-drive line. In doing some more research, I fell down the rabbit hole of YouTube watch content. I started learning about different types of mechanisms that could power a watch. Having an engineering background, I was fascinated by the theory behind both mechanical and Quartz way of timekeeping. There isn’t much more to say, a couple of years have gone by and here we are! Definitely enjoying this hobby.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

I’ve owned many ever since I was a child. However, my first “real” watch was the aforementioned Citizen Eco-drive Chronograph my grandfather gave me.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

I’m leaning more towards military and diver heritage brands. Hamilton and Seiko are two brands which are in my price bracket that I’m really enjoying. I’d love to get my hands on a Longines, and then of course a Rolex and Omega.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

The Rolex Explorer ref 114270. I just love the idea of a nice no none sense, do it all watch. While I do enjoy having a couple of watches go choose from, I like having the good ol’ reliable. As for why this specific model, I just love the long slim lugs of vintage oyster cases. the 114270 combines vintage aesthetic with some modern improvements when compared to its predecessor. Up there are the Rolex Submariner 16610 and Explorer II 16570 as well.
