Law of Diminishing Returns

The Omega Planet Ocean and the Citizen Promaster Excalibur

Other than that one has an automatic movement (co-axial) and other is quartz (eco drive), these are pretty similar watches!

  • Serviceable Diving Bezel: Check

  • Water Resistance (200M+): Check

  • Matte Black Dial: Check

  • White Applied Indices: Check

  • Orange Accent: Check

  • Bright and Long-lasting Lume: Check

I’m a fan of both, but the Citizen, despite costing 10 times less is a perfectly good watch!

Do you find yourself being drawn to similar watches from different brands?

I am with you and in a similar dilemma. I want a luxury watch but just can’t make the purchase, with similar watches at much cheaper prices but I am not losing much in quality. It’s hard.

Yep, this hobby is all about diminishing returns and subjective value propositions. As is the world of coffee (grinders) and mechanical keyboards. (I seem to have a type 🤔...) Most of my watch collection is based around, as perceived by myself, value for money. Which is why since last year I went a bit crazy with microbrands... I am however considering a Tudor at the moment, so I'm apparently a walking contradiction 😅. I don't know... *Caveman brain*: Watches pretty, must have!

The only thing that stops me from having that Citizen is the 23mm lugs, and I wish they were a hair further from the case.

On another note, the crystal for the BN0100 is the exact same as that of the Casio Duro.

Citizen is great all round watch this is mine as I can't afford a Patek world timer.

I couldn’t agree more on the price and diminishing returns of watches. I have a few “cheaper” compared to the rest but they go toe to toe in every aspect - looks, quality, precision…

Don't talk to me about coffee grinders 😂. Just wasted an hour watching a YouTube video about burr geometries, and wondering whether to upgrade my 64mm burrs to enhance my espresso 😆

Whahaha, relatable. Been down that rabbit hole, luckily I now have my Sculptor 78s 🤣 Guess that Lance Hedrick came to the rescue? Kaffeemacher is also a great one (German). As in the watch world so many sponsored/bought/low quality vids out there. Good luck 👍

... I have the 064s for about 6 weeks now, and it's quite impressive, so far, without any tinkering.

Comparing these is like comparing a Porsche 911 and a Smart Car.

Rear engined? Check.

Rear wheel drive? Check.

2 doors? Check.

Two usable seats? Check.

Will do the speed limit and over? Check.
