Q: How did you get into watch collecting?
I have always liked watches and one day saw a good deal on what turned out to be a bad automatic watch. After that I started paying attention and doing some research on affordable watches.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
That would be a Timex my mom bought me back around 1963.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Start off with a reliable affordable brand and go into the hobby expecting to make mistakes. We all have to learn and beating yourself up over bad decisions does no one any good. It's just easier on the wallet to make your initial mistakes with lower end (whatever that means) brands.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
I have been looking at Longines, Junghans and Nomos lately. Though I have also been checking out vintage watches and will more than likely pull the trigger on a vintage watch sometime in the relatively near future.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
I guess my grail watch is an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. I just really love the way they look and now that they are offering 39mm watches I am even more interested. I was 14 years old when they landed on the moon and Omega landed on the moon too. So, I guess there is that aspect and James Bond (Daniel Craig) wore an Omega. My own pursuits are much more modest, but I would feel pretty cool walking my dog with an Aqua Terra.
