20 Best Dress Watches Under $5,000 (or not)

This article popped up in my Google feed and had me intrigued:

https://www.jomashop.com/blog/articles/20-best-dress-watches-under-5000/amp/

But then I clicked and started reading.

Half of the watches on the list aren't anywhere near a dress watch, they're just shiny or black (or both) and mostly way too big:

I mean come on! Seriously, a dress watch?

Image

Watch #1 on the list is a $#@%ing Ranger! The header image is a dive watch!

What the heck Jomashop?! These aren't the top twenty of any kind of watch, let alone dress watches. Just call the article "20 random watches we are selling and need someone to buy".

Also it has great lines like this:

"Remember, a great dress watch doesn't merely tell time—it tells a story of your taste and sophistication."

Was it written by AI? It was definitely written by AI. At least they could have proofread the output and requested an update to replace the non-dress watches with actual dress watches. Or if you're going in on an article about dress watches that isn't actually about dress watches, go all in with one of @solidyetti's #custodesspecials. My goodness!

End of rant. Deep breath.

Crunchers, I'm sure we can come up with a better list. I challenge you: What would you include in your list of 20 Best dress watches?

And please feel free to post a list of actual dress watches (but also please do post your most ridiculous Jomashop style list of "dress" watches, extra points for terrible AI writing).

I mean, this thing would put up it's pinky for fanciness, if it had hands.... bwahahahaha 😝

But in all seriousness,

I'd throw out the Lorier Zephyr.

Classy, two handed, oozing art deco, tonneau, affordable.

At best there are four dress watches on that list. These are ten of my faves outside of the likes of one off builds from brands like Roger Smith. I would argue any top ten list that did not have some iteration of these models is a flawed list.

Tank, Reverso, Calatrava, 1908, Classique, Echi II, Moser Vanta Venturer Black, VC Patrimony Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, L.U.C 1860, Saxonia Thin, and Laurent Ferrier Classic Micro-Rotor

Any dress watch list that doesn't have at minimum a mention of a Calatrava is highly suspect.

And I'll also add another, the Carl F. Bucherer Manero Autodate, of John Wick fame.

I guess if one was picky you could argue it isn't a two hander, and it has a date. Both of which might be considered no-no's for a "true" dress watch, but it still looks terribly fancy.

Granted Wick is only able to read it near a light source, and he's wearing it wrong....👀🤏🏻😜.

To be fair though, I have seen Keanu Reeves wear other watches in this manner, so that might just be how Reeves wears a wrist watch occasionally.

If I tried to do a full 20 that would absolutely be there, ditto for another JLC and likely Patek too.
