HELP! SKX013 Crystal Replacement

Anyone have experience with upgrading or replacing the crystal on a SKX013? I've run into a snag. When I went to replace the old scratched crystal the crystal gasket kept getting damaged when I attempted to push the crystal back into the case. After several failed attempts I damaged the gasket so much it could not be used. This is a very thin piece of nylon and very easy to damage.
I've seen two methods. 1. Put the gasket on the crystal before pressing into the case. 2. Place the gasket in the case then press the crystal into the case. I attempted both processes with no success.
I've ordered 3 new gaskets so I can practice. I would really appreciate hearing any experience you would like to share. Is there any trick to this i'm missing?

Relatively new to watch collecting. I love researching, learning, and collecting a wide variety of time pieces.
Silicone lube the gasket very lightly in a lube tube then fit the gasket in the case then finger push the crystal down nice and square and flat then finish off with a crystal press checking along the way that the crystal in going down evenly and not on an angle this works for me.
You sure you have the correct size crystal and gasket… in my experience it’s either .5 mm short or bigger hence it doesn’t fit right… I would try to re-measure and try to measure the old one for correct sizing …
