Cherry blossom - time for the Alpinist Ginza SPB289J1

Folks

It seems to have been eternally cold and grey, but yesterday I saw the first cherry blossom on the cycle to work. The colour and vibrance reminded me of a trip to Toyko 12 years ago, so I decided it was time to break out my Seiko Alpinist Ginza edition. I love vobrant comparu blue second hand, and of course the dial, inspired by the paving in the Ginza district of Tokyo. It reminded me just just how lucky I was to get the watch.

I had placed an order on release in October 2021, only to be told that due to a stock error, my watch could not be fulfilled and I was offered the SSA445 instead. I held off, feeling very disappointed, and started looking at a cocktail time as an alternative. About 3 days later, the seller advised me that someone had been unable to complete payment on their ordered, and they had one for me.

Historically, I haven't given this watch much wrist time because of the 12.9mm thickness, which is somehow accentuated on my wrist by the relatively long lugs. I keep meaning to try it on a 19mm leather strap. I've put it back on today, and maybe because I have been wearing my Longines Spirit 37mm a bit recently, it just feels better than I remember!

Here in Ginza now with my alpinist Ginza and my cherry blossom GS 🤪 perfect timing right?

Should be mankai in the next few days!! 🌸

I’ll have to double wrist these 2 watches , they both fit the setting beyond words.

BTW - I put my alpinist on leather, then back to bracelet since I liked it better in retrospect!

Also, despite my tiny sub 6 wrists I find zero issues with the height on Ginza. I guess I’ve got lots of taller watches 😂

BTW - did u get your Ginza from Seiya Japan?

Wow that is awesome. I am not jealous at all!

Mine was sourced in the UK (Francis & Gaye) who have good stocks of Seiko new releases generally.
