It is already illegal to carry anything larger than a 3in blade in public without an obvious good reason, like your legitimate job demands it. It's an attention grabbing headline for sure, but it's a nothing story.
Nothing story indeed, trying to move hot air to create the illusion of tackling an issue. What issue, I dont even know.
I live here. It's a city of large wealth and even larger disparity. And the thing is, you get decencitized. And just like this isnt going anywhere, violence isnt going anywhere either. Machete news or not. I see APs and Rolexes in the tube next to Casios and beggars.

Be vigilent and pay attention, I guess.
That was my main takeaway. Be vigilant and pay attention. You can get robbed of your watch anywhere and with any kind of weapon.
I’ve been robbed at gunpoint, which I give 0/10 stars and do not recommend if you can help it. Somehow the thought of being mugged by a dude wielding a machete is even more terrifying than that . . .
I guess in London almost nobody needs a machete so banning them is fine, I guess...
That said, I own a massive shoe horn made from steel. Sharpen the front with a tool of your choice and you got yourself a machete substitute. Hell, one can just use the damn shoe horn as is and have aplenty capable weapon.

Clearly the solution is guns.
Lots and lots of guns.

I don't know where you live, but that seems to be the solution here in the USA.
