I am crazy about watches, especially mechanical watches. I have small budget, but it’s not about money it’s the taste and feeling about watches that makes me unwind.
Back in 2012 I went to a shopping mall and found a watch store called Leidenschaft and bought one swatch watch, my first Swiss watch. Then gradually I started checking watches over the internet and YouTube which caused me get interest.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Casio digital watch my father gifted me when I was in class I
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
Yes. The west end Sowar , which is quite an old one. Sowar in Hindi/Farsi means ‘someone who rides’ and commonly used for denoting cavalry. These watches were originally made for British Indian army and they operated out of Calcutta, my hometown. Now they do not do business in India but lots of old watches are there in the vintage watch market. The watch is half a century old but keeps accurate time.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Do not rush into buying a watch. Avoid fashion brands. Go for brands with history.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Favre Leuba, Doxa
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Grand Seiko spring drive. It is a masterpiece and epitome of beauty with craftsmanship.
