Dial Logos On Homage Watches

So I have been building Seiko Mod Homage watches. Need your opinion. So same watch...one has Seiko logo on dial and one has a made -up name as logo. Which would you be more likely to buy.

I own a modded Seiko ‘submariner’ and am happy with it. It used to have no logo on the dial, but that just didn’t feel right (picture below). If your made-up name and logo sound and look nice, I would prefer that over a Seiko logo

If it is a build I would use my own logo. The customer is not buying a Seiko.

I am trying to come up with a good logo. That isn't easy though. Don't want something cheesy and trying to find something I haven't seen before. Might just go with an emblem and no words.

I don't totally agree with that...it is a Seiko movement so I don't have a big problem with that. Seiko doesn't seem to mind.

Sure, it has a Seiko-licensed movement. But the watch is not part of Seiko's offering. The question is not whether Seiko minds or not, but whether the customer gets the right impression.

There is no right answer. I will just leave you with this analogy.

You can wear clothes or you can be naked. You will always be a person. The clothes cannot.

I just use the logo to fill the space because it doesn't look right without it. I don't care what it says.

And I know how I would react if I, as a customer, received a watch with Seiko on the dial, but with an NH35 movement, unless it was explicitly stated that the watch is not a Seiko.

·

I'm a sterile dial fan, but the answer depends highly on the fantasy brand/logo chosen.

·

I'll say this...I don't mind with Seiko. Most of the dials you buy already have Seiko on them.

I would not wear a Rolex Replica watch. I don't have a problem with a homage watch though.

The difference is Seiko doesn't seem to mind and Rolex definitely does and I am not interested in someone cutting my arm off to get my fake watch.

I am pretty sure most of the time when someone buys a homage watch they know that that is what it is.

I wouldn't put a Seiko logo on a watch that had say a PT5000 movement in it. I guess when it comes down to it...to me the movement is the watch. The other parts are accessories to the movement.

·

This is what really irks me...when I see a Microbrand selling Chronograph watches for $300-400 and all it has in it is a VK63 movement.

You can buy watches all day long with that same movement for under $50.

This is a way bigger sin than having a Seiko logo on a watch with a Seiko movement.

That is what I call deceiving people.

Okay, what would happen if someone sent that watch to Seiko for service?

Again most people would never do that that buy homage/mod watches.

Are you saying you buy a homage or mod watch and actually think that you can do that....not being mean but that is obviously not something you would do.

If I was a seller and I wasn't making that clear then I am a bad seller...I would definitely not do that.

There are a whole other group that will just buy real Seikos and avoid homages.

Okay, that's fine, as long as you are upfront about what the watch is.

When I sell a homage/mod I am very clear that there is no warranty on parts. My warranty is for my labor only. I will fix any watch I make for a year for the cost of any parts needed. That is not a bad deal at all. NH35/NH34's can last for 10 years without any service. It is a rare occasion that ones needs to be fixed. The movement cost $20-30 so it is a very inexpensive fix.

·

Another thought I had at lunch. People put decals on their cars all the time representing parts on the motor. So what is wrong with a logo on a watch representing the movement? Heck I would even go as far as to say it is free advertising for Seiko.

·

So I think I have decided on my own logo. DAGORE I would love to hear some thoughts good or bad. Doesn't mean anything...made from my name.
