The watch I could never sell.

This is my Christopher Ward C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic. It's a watch that typically wouldn't draw my attention let alone my hard earned cash but it's...

I've been looking at this Seiko Speedtimer for several weeks and it's interesting to see the similarities to the original Seiko stopwatches as you say. I like the simplicity in the same way as I like old pocket watches with uncluttered faces. Georg Jensen Koppel watch is another (take a look). I love that design and reluctantly bought one for my daughter after I gave her a couple of options for a birthday. I say reluctant as it's a fashion quartz and I wanted her to have a Longines automatic for the same money but like the Speedtimer you've mentioned here they both share a minimalist stopwatch type design that I'm keeping being drawn to. I've currently got a SEIKO SRQ041J1 in my basket at £1722 which is heavily discounted at the moment with a couple of UK sellers, especially considering the 400 limited worldwide release from Seiko. It definitely moves away from the stopwatch minimalist design but I guess has a modern take on the original. The SRQ035 and SRQ041 are special Seiko's especially with the 8R46 caliber but each time I go to pull the trigger I look again at those massive pushers and wonder if I could live with them, or if I'm honest if I could live with the comments from my buddies 😳

This is something I wouldn't choose personally but I can totally see why others would. This watch and strap works. It's sort of special forces or maybe what the Star Wars Tusken Raiders would wear 😉

As you've said, this watch is perfect for you since you've assembled the components you want in a watch. I've only modified a couple of watches but it can certainly give a watch a new lease of life. I had an old Seiko Turtle which I wasn't wearing and my father had a beaten up quartz diver so I put a dome sapphire crystal on it together with a ceramic bezel, MM300 hands and a steel bracelet. Those couple of changes made all the difference and my father never takes it off.

Depends on what style of watch appeals to you but I like the Sinn 556 RS Leather (556.0106) which is currently £1056.

Sinn is a good recommendation here and I personally would pay out for one as I love the brand but in choosing a field type watch then quite a few at or around £1000 and beyond will have the same movement as those well below that price point. No change there as many other watch types use ETA or Sellita movements seen on cheaper watches and we all know about that but for me with field watches the case finishing and quality are no different in watches costing £500 to those north of £1000 and I don't see where the money has gone. I'd start my search with Hamilton and Seiko Alpinist.

Those of you interested in Sinn, order the catalogue. I don't think it's changed (hope not). It's free and hard cover and a joy to read with all of the detail.

The dark brown leather and stitching compliments the colour of the numerals and indices.
