I’ve been thinking about high end quartz for a lot of reasons lately. Considering putting together a longer form post about it. But wanted to get y’all’s take on these two watches!

I have the SBGX263 & it's a beautiful watch, superbly finished, effortlessly chic. My only tiny criticism of it is that it could be a bit bigger, 39mm would be perfect & that the Grand Seiko bracelet doesn't taper.

I bought mine from an eBayer that lived locally to me. I fully intended on buying it the night I went to see it at his house. The first thing that struck me about it was just how alike it was to my 36mm Oyster Perpetual silver dial. It was so similar to it that I left without purchasing it, I really couldn't justify the cost. A week later he dropped the price £500 & I bought it immediately. Similar or not, I wasn't letting it go for the price he was asking. I genuinely believe the SBGX263 is finished to a higher standard than the Rolex but if you're seeking oohs & ahhs from friends, colleagues etc then sadly the Rolex will win that race.

Seriously though, what's not to love about the GS?

I would choose the Oyster Quartz, given that, to my knowledge, fewer than 25,000 pieces were produced across all models, enhancing its collective value.

I was always into Oysterquartz. Thats why I own SBGX263

GS quartz should be less hassle to maintain over time, so that'd be my vote.

The Oysterquartz is a loser, not many people know about it and think it is a fake. I think the OQ is a pretty cool, but I also think the GS is a better watch.

That’s very interesting, so what made you pull the trigger on the GS instead of the OQ? I may be sticking my foot in my mouth but I believe they are close in price. What set GS out from the crowd?

I believe that GS is a modern incarnation of OQ and because I’ve heard that there are multiple fakes of vintage watches I decided to go with a new one

I'm a big fan of an Oysterquartz.

The recoilless tick and more mechanical engineering of the movement draws me to it a lot more than a GS.

Nothing against a GS though, as my next big watch purchase will likely be a quartz GS or Credor with a GS movement.
