I had used the same Timex Ironman since 2013, and it finally ran out of batteries. When I went to get batteries, I started looking for other watches and just kind of dropped into the mechanical / automatic watch world by accident. The very first mechanical watch I got was a Seiko 5, and I was hooked.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Casio F-91W when I was in elementary school.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
I have a small commemorative Chinese Air Force watch that I bought as a souvenir at the Chinese Military History Museum in Beijing when I studied there. I was probably the only non-Chinese person in that entire building, but it was a fun day!
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Just go for what you like, instead of what people say you should try.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Citizen, as well as some microbrands. Side-eyeing Hamilton with interest.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Rolex Explorer 1, 39mm ::: I love the lumed 3, 6 and 9 on the dial, the size of the case and the overall simplicity of the watch (no date complication). I don't think I'll ever end up buying one though, since I stumbled across the Tisell 9015 Explorer (39mm) that is a very close homage.
