Sentimental Pieces - My Moeris Pocket Watch

This Grand Prix pocket watch by Moeris isn't expensive or collectible, but it's one of the most important pieces in my collection.

My dad gave it to me for my birthday. He flew our entire family back to Saint Imier, Switzerland to celebrate his 60th and my 30th and gave me this pocket watch because the company was founded in our small Swiss town.

It sits on my desk and I wind it up every morning because the ticking sound helps me write -- a little like a metronome!

Do you have any super sentimental watches in your collection that you would never, ever part with?

Victorinox Swiss Army Original 249088 Men's Red Bazel Black Nylon Strap Watch - Overstock - 14767596

When I was in high school, my father bought me this watch. I grew up pretty poor, so it was truly an extravagance. When I went off to college, my friends and I drove out to this waterfall and jumped off the rocks into the pool below. We kept daring one another to jump from higher and higher up. I got up the courage to jump from 30 feet up, but as I hit the water, I felt a tug on my wrist, and when I surfaced, I noticed that my watch band had broken, and I'd lost the watch my father had gotten for me.

It's been over 30 years now. My father passed away not long after that, and I miss him every day. Imagine my surprise when I saw that Victorinox sells this watch again. As soon as I saw it, I bought another one. Every time I look down at it on my wrist, I am reminded of my father, who worked long, hard hours, doing manual labor, slaving away for a pittance, and how he'd secretly saved up some hard earned dollars to buy his son a nice watch. Every time I look down at my wrist, I also think of my own children now, and hope that one day I can be to them as good a father as mine was to me.

beautiful Moeris and great story! My most sentimental watch is my Oris 65, which was a wedding gift from my wife. It's engraved with our initials and wedding date on the back:

What a great Oris! Did your wife know you wanted that specific watch or did she pick it for you? Either way, what a fantastic wedding gift, and the engraving makes it all the more special.
