Now I'm interested in the Santos…

Has there been a watch or watch style that you haven't had interest in until trying on some unattainable version of it?

I've spent a long time sneaking up on a Cartier Tank of some sort - likely a stainless Tank L or Must XL, though a white gold Americaine 1741 has always had my interest…sigh.

Then recently the Santos Dumont has slid into the running, stealing some of the spotlight in my brain from the Tanks. A rose gold or even the stainless is just gorgeous.

However, the Cartier Santos has never really grabbed my interest. The bracelet itself, as an object, was always obviously impressive to me. The Santos on leather appealed to me more as a watch I'd wear. But the Santos on the bracelet, it always seemed like just too much. Something that guy might wear.

Until I tried on the rose gold variant 🤤. (Sorry for no photos other than directly on-wrist...I was so awestruck by it that I just forgot). Now the Santos is living rent-free in my head. I will likely never be able to buy the rose gold variant at $40+ new/$30k+ used...but now the stainless is certainly in my crosshairs. I am stalking it online and the more I see it in more situations, the more I like it. The less flashy/over-the-top it seems. Compared to my Speedmaster on its bracelet, it's not that much more flashy - so I'm already in the ballpark as it is. Maybe I am that guy 😱

We'll see what the future holds, this year is filled with special events for me and a new watch is certainly in the cards...but for now, I think Cartier is likely the brand and the Santos is definitely a possibility.

Some other Cartiers from the other evening,

I love my Santos my favorite watch at the moment. Not only dose it feel like an elegant sports watch in the large. BUT I’m the US or atleast were I live that is flooded by people wearing luxury watches. Seeing them are few and far in between. I see countless Subs, Kermit Subs, Pepsis, all types of Daytonas in any given day. Same goes for the tank. I rarely see anyone wearing a santos surprisingly.

I have never thought of any of the Santos models as being too flashy or ostentatious to wear, in fact my white dial Santos 100 fitted to a black croco strap and OEM clasp is my sincere watch. When I am in attendance at a wedding or a funeral, that is my watch to be respectful and proper.

Can't go wrong with #cartier! 🥰
