Traveling for a watch

Ever come up with a crazy idea that just makes so much sense in your head that you say it out loud to your spouse and they immediately light up and say "Yes!"? That happened to me a couple of days ago and yesterday I set things in motion.

Last week I read that AnOrdain had reopened their waitlist and I reviewed their catalog and re-fell in love with their Model 1 Fume in blue. No matter how many times I stepped away, looked at other models, or looked at other watches I'd end up coming back to it (so much so it's now my computer wallpaper). I was smitten. Seeing that the waitlist slots were open for 2028, 2029, and 2030 I thought it would be awesome to pick the watch up in person (if they'd work with me on it)... I have years to plan for the trip. A quick email through their contact form on the website and a response from Keir the next day confirmed they would indeed do that. My wife has always wanted to go to Scotland (she's a huge fan of Diana Gabaldin's Outlander book series) so I thought this could be an amazing win-win situation... she gets a trip to Scotland and I get a dream watch that will be forever connected to our trip.

So I talked to my wife about going to Scotland in 2029 (the year between our sons graduating from high school) and she said "really? heck yeah... let's do it!". I booked my build slot yesterday and the planning/waiting game begins. 2029...

But before that, we'll be celebrating our 50th birthdays and 25 years of marriage in 2027 and we're thinking a trip to Italy might be the perfect getaway. A stop in Florence to pick up a Panerai seems like another prime opportunity. Stay tuned...
