Tiffany Blues…

I was watching the most recent episode of T&H where Christian and Michael were discussing the recent price explosion surrounding the Tiffany blue colored OP released last year. As part of that conversation, they talked about Chrono24 and eBay‘s roll in the matter and whether this might be a tipping point for folks. Its definitely an interesting subject from a number of perspectives and would love to hear your guys’ thoughts!

Do you think demand is driving this price cost or do you think it’s manipulation?

Hype aside, how do you like the turquoise OP?

Have you bought on Chrono24 before? I never have so would love to hear your thoughts!

Do you think Chrono24/eBay have some role or responsibility in this whole deal?

I think demand is the bigger player, but there likely is some price manipulation and dealers may be holding on to bigger pieces at time in their inventory to decrease the supply even more and drive up prices (as evidenced on Youtube), so I think it comes from both sides. I've only seen the turquoise OP on video and it definitely looks more subtle and stunning than the pictures make it look out to be (which is more of a sickly blue in my opinion). I would certainly be a fan but only at or near retail. And Chrono24 for buying is great! Just have to trust the seller. As far as trusting prices on there though, that's another story (as Michael and Christian point out)...

The whole “I’m a Rolex AD but I don’t have any Rolex watches and I can’t get you one either unless you buy a bunch of other stuff” thing is a big turnoff for me. im kinda over the whole Rolex thing. Plenty of other great watches out there. Just my take. 😁

I agree demand is definitely part of it. Initially it seemed farfetched that these dealers on the secondary market could coordinate a price increase like this but with Rolex (in the current market environment) anything is possible I guess.

I think the turquoise is quite nice but never understood the hype behind it (versus the other color). It wasn't like this was an actual Tiffany stamped piece, but now I guess being only a couple lines of text away is enough for some folks.

Good to know about Chrono24 - I've never purchased on their platform but have definitely scoured through their listings before, so I'll be sure to find some reputable sellers before laying down the cash.

I feel this. Its unfortunate that this is how it goes but I think that's just part of the deal with Rolex. You either pay-up over retail on the secondary market to get a watch at the market value - OR - you pay-up at the AD (via purchase of other stuff) for an opportunity to purchase a Rolex at retail. It would be interesting to see if Rolex just increased their prices to what most pieces go for on the secondary market, if that would fix anything or just further drive prices up further. People keep waiting for the bubble to pop/market to cooldown but not sure if that's ever going to happen, haha.

The Rolex OP in turquoise is so much better looking than the Tiffany Blue Nautilus.
