Autodromo Group C

I just received my Autodromo Group C in grey steel with green accents. This watch may cause some controversy from what I’ve seen about it so far!

I like to keep some digital watches in my collection. I cycle a lot, over cobblestones, in Ireland, on a Brompton, so bumping my mechanical watches to bits is best avoided. I’ve been through a lot of G Shocks but most of them are just not quite my style, especially if I’m cycling to the office. (I don’t wear a suit but still).

The first time I clapped eyes on the Autodromo Group C, I really liked the look, but I couldn’t get past the price tag (~$500). However the more I learnt about the materials and processes of construction, the more it started to make sense. I have owned full metal G Shocks that cost more, but I didn’t like the blingyness and the (to me) excessive detailing. I should say right now that my blacked out square on a combi bracelet is my favourite “weekend garden work/beach” watch, so no hate for G Shocks.

Anyway, it was a hard choice between the grey/green and steel/yellow but I’m really happy with this colour combination.

The watch itself just feels so premium. It’s hefty without being heavy, the steel is thick and beautifully brushed. The lines are super sharp and the finishing is impeccable. The case back is thick and etched with a lovely picture and the pusher functions. The case back screws are thick and polished on top, and feel premium too. The sapphire crystal is huge and slightly stepped and bevelled, and seems to my eyes to make the time display super sharp and sort of float in space. Viewing angle is excellent.

The pushers and text are a vibrant green and operate with a nice and affirmative action. Watch has date, stopwatch, alarm, and a very nice turquoise backlight.

The strap is comfortable and supple. The 2 keepers are a nice touch. A little difficult to position but they really stay in place which is presumably the point. Buckle is heavy brushed black steel.

30m water resistance is my only gripe, would have liked it to be able to go into a pool or sea but I have my old G Shock for that carry on. Oh that and the American only date layout. MM/DD my ass.

I’m very happy with this, and I look forward to hearing if you like it, and also why I’m a custard brained simpleton for buying it, which I’m sure there will be plenty of.

I finally have an adult digital watch: ironically one that reminds me of my 80s childhood and sits perfectly beside my young son’s collection of Casios. :)

I should also add that I had a hiccup with my order and customer service was phenomenal. Bradley (company founder) wrote to me directly and everything was sorted in no time. He seems like a lovely guy who is passionate about doing things right.

Just found your post. Thanks for the detailed description! I love the looks of this watch. This one, the silver/yellow and the black one are just awesome! Maybe I can justify the price tag somehow someday and get one of those too!

Well if you are interested in mine, I need to sell a couple of watches as I bought two more. This one is probably going to end up being sold as I have gone down a dive watch rabbit hole. I’m in the EU. If you want a good price on a perfect condition one, ping me :)
