My confused and beautiful companion

First, I gotta thank the Crunch. This hobby can be so isolating at times.. as we know, 99% of the population couldn’t care less what we wear on our wrist (and the other 1% is wearing apple watches…lol). There are not many places to talk about this crazy obsession of ours and this is the first place I have felt comfortable just getting it out :) . I have been “rabbiting on” about some of my watches and this is the next one up.

This watch is such a confusing contradiction.. yet it has been a faithful friend all over the planet with me.

First, it has Roman Numerals.. I am an old guy..and feel blessed to be so..but even I thought Romans were “stuffy and old man looking”. Walked into my AD’s shop looking for something that would catch my eye..(always a dangerous thing)..and Sharauf showed me around his usual fare. I have done enough business with him over the years that he will at times pull something out that’s not in the case. When he first showed me.. i was kind of ..meh..but I could not stop staring at the dial. It seemed so endless and milky. explained to me about the enamel dial and the process for making them. He knows what he is doing.. hooked me like he knew he would..

What’s confusing here is that while it looks like a classic dress watch..from a spec standpoint.. it is really not. It’s 12.9mm thick, has 100m WR and is frankly quite heavy. 6R27 has been pretty solid. A PR (another thing I did not think I would like) and a date complication that frankly challenges my progressives to no end..lol. And yet, I love it…it has been my main office watch for the past 5 years.. its been in the water many, many times. Put the Artem sailcloth on it and its perfect. Literally has gone from an executive sales meeting to the hotel pool and back countless times.

You never know what watch is going to “speak to you” . I would have never thought this one would..and yet here I am…5 years later and still as enamored as I was when I first saw it..the scratches and dings just add to it..

Handsome dial! Also the sailcloth with white stitching really ties it together. The Roman numerals definitely raise a dress-watch vibe for me, but functionally that it's capable of more (i.e. 💧🏊‍♂️) makes it all the more valuable for your $... 🍻

Love it. BTW, Do not regret growing old, for it is a Privilege denied to many.

High contrast, Roman numerals, subdivided minute markers, interesting complications...love it!

I think if the perfect watch existed, none of us would buy it. A watch's flaws are what endears them to us.

Though yours, friend, is far from fatally flawed. Perhaps less than pleasing for the more symmetry obsessed among us....but wabi sabi for the rest!

An absolute looker!

If you get lucky with the movement and it runs accurately, it’s something really special.
