In the mid-tier price range, I'd agree that Longines is dominating. At the more affordable end, it's basically impossible to beat Seiko.
A microbrand I've noticed recently, though, that's offering remarkable bang for your buck is BOLDR Supply Co. Their new Odyssey Regatta chronograph houses a bona fide Valjoux 7750 for just $1500. That's insane to me. Their Field Medic II has both a pulsometer and a scale that counts respirations for respiratory rate which I've never seen before. It houses a Seiko VK64 for $300. Really fair prices with very interesting designs.
