2024 SOTC and goals

Hi Watchcrunchers!

I have been on Watchcrunch for a while, but have never posted anything other than WRUW.

I'm 26 years old. I officially started collecting watches in around 2016, but had always worn a watch since I was a kid. My first serious watch was a Casio DBC-62 calculator. When I found one in NOS condition in 2019, I immediately bought it to keep in the collection.

Like many watch collectors, I got a taste of automatic watches through Seiko 5s and Seiko divers. I went through a phase of modding Seikos to find the perfect one, but there is admittedly something charming about the imperfections of these Seiko watches. I ended up with 2 heavily modded Seiko, one SNK809 and one SKX013 (2nd in the photo)

Once I started learning about different styles of watches, the Junghans Max Bill became my grail. I love the design and the stories behind it, and eventually acquired the Max Bill as I left my first job to go to grad school.

My appreciation for original design makes me a fan of Brew. I also find inspiration from the way the owner of the brand talks about design - finding a unique silhouette for his watch design and telling stories through the small details that many people may miss.

The 2 "Swiss made" in my collection include a Certina ds-4 and an SWC Trench. There's not much to say about the design of these watches, but they are very understated and suitable for everyday wear.

Thinning the herd is definitely a goal for me this year, and since the beginning of 2024 I have sold 3 watches. I can see these 6 as the core of my collection that will not be sold.

My taste has changed back and forth throughout the years of collecting, so I don't trust myself to pinpoint what type of watch I will go for next 😅 A caller GMT with a diving bezel, a panda mecaquartz chronograph, and a Stowa Partitio are on my wishlist.

That's all I have to share! Thank you for reading and let me know what you think about my collection 😄

Great collection and a beautifully told story.

Sounds like you know what you're doing - keeping and wearing what you like and selling what you don't.
