Timex

I watched a Youtube channel about the history of Timex. How their mechanical movements were cheap and how an American president interfered to place tariffs on foreign watches in order for Timex to succeed. And they did 4 out of 5 Americans in the 50’s and 60’s owned a Timex.

There were actually commercials on how Timex watches can take a beating, farmers and mechanics used them as advertised by the commercials.

In the 80’s i had a Timex, and now I remember how i beat the crap out of that watch. Years later it died. The movement inside wasn’t worth repairing.

I bought this timex because my collection deserved to have one. The design is iconic. They have many designs but this is the classic one.

This same report said that watch collectors do not like collecting Timex watches.

Is that true?

I spend a bit of time for work in Waterbury, original home of Timex. It’s a former industrial city and its decline makes me sad about how few things are made in the States any more. I bought a Timex ‘Waterbury’ as a sort of personal memorial

Back in the day, Timex was considered a "working man's" watch ... and though not "refined" it was affordable for most everyone that wanted one and lived up to the advertising of being durable. 👍

I've enjoyed Timex watches since I was a child back in the 1960's and have a few in my modest collection 😎

Timex still isn't considered "high end" as far as watches go, but of late seem to be on a roll and competing head to head with the likes of some of the better offerings from Aliexpress, Casio and even some Micro-brands. The fact that their Q line and other retro re-issues are so popular recently, speaks volumes for their legacy as a brand! 👍 👍

Great post, true most watch collectors don't see any value in Timex because it's affordable, not worth fixing and known as the Average Joe watch and that is the exact reason I started collecting them. It was my way of honoring the Working Man who imho doesn't get enough credit in this world. They are the true unsung heroes. I got a little carried away as I have over 100 and built a mini museum in my house. Another thing about collectors and collections, it doesn't matter what you collect (i.e. matchbox cards, G.I. Joes, lighters, knives, autographs, etc.) a collection should not make sense and come from the heart, and then you will have something called passion, which is the ultimate collection and collector. Don't follow the herd, follow your heart!
