The Year of 3-6-9-12 Watches

I noticed Baltic just released their updated HMS003 today and it's a stunner. Reminds me of the Furlan Marri but there's clear difference in thickness, price, movement and finishes.

Got me thinking to other similar configurations of the 3-6-9-12 layout either in a sector dial or without (Tudor Ranger).

This would be my shorts list (ordered by preference) and within purchasing reach:

  1. Furlan Marri Sector Dial

  2. Branch Horology Sector

  3. Baltic HMS003

  4. Merci LMM01 National

Note: I know some of these were released last year but I'm only really noticing alot more this year.

I don’t mind this layout. Looks good on a sector dial. If I had to pick one to own from these choices, I’d probably go with the Ranger. Fits my style the most. That said, I do like the LMM01 as well and that’d be my second choice. Third would be HMS003.

I noticed a somewhat similar trend a while back. 3-9-12, small seconds at 6 o’clock. I did a poll and Rolex took the lead by a small margin, with Glashütte coming just behind.

Yea the 3-9-12 isn't a bad look either!

With my wrist 6.5-6.75" wrist I'm certainly appreciating the smaller sized releases that have been announced.

3-6-9-12 isn't a look I go for. I wondered how many I had with that configuration and was surprised how few I have - only 3 from >50 watched. Of those one is a donor watch where the dial will be swapped out, and the other two have beautiful fonts (Moels and Poljot De Luxe). None in 3-6-9 or 3-9-12.

I looked at my wants list of 40+, and none have any of those styles. There's obviously an unconscious bias I wasn't fully aware of 🤷

I always say "You like what you like". My preferences are more traditionally styled watches hence why Tudor Ranger in its utilitarian vibe didn't make my cut.

P.s you have a HUGE want list. Or is that normal and I'm just not looking big enough? 🤣

Same wrist size! I’m with ya. I’m also liking these releases.

My wants list gets culled every now and then. Most of these are inexpensive. Just about every one will sit on the list for 6 months so that I know it wasn't just spur of the moment lust. I'm taking a few months off buying anything, and at most I pick up one a month, so this has me sorted for a couple of years!

Trends are cyclical aren't they? Live long enough and you've seen it all...

Hopefully I don't start sounding like an octogenarian to my kids by spouting off how big then small then big then small dress watches were...

This is an anti-3-6-9-12 watch.
