Golden rule: the ratio of watch bracelet width to tie width to hip width should be 1 / 8 / 16 😀

Ulrich I can't afford the consultancy fees but obviously you know what you are talking about.A picture says a 1000 words so if you can give me a photo to demonstrate the "golden ratio" your consultancy fee will be posted immediately!

I think @Chunghauphoto will be the runaway winner here... No contest. Even my one entry won't match his shots...

I think Chung is being modest with his photography, we know he has film rolls/images stuffed with "Top Drawer" ties and watches too, don't be shy Chung! Old pic.s are welcome too!

I definitely see less ties on my commute and more people seem to double take when they see you wearing one. ‘Comfort’ and informality in the office workplace has become more common. In terms of ‘comfort’, I would consider wearing a tie, comfortable. Anyone who says it’s not normally has an ill fitting shirt (especially on at the neck) imo. As an ‘older’ guy, I wouldn’t wear things if they weren’t comfortable!

It wasn’t too long ago, that if you went to an job interview without a tie, you were making a statement (normally one with a ‘negative’ connotation). Today it would seem that the ‘rebels’ or outliers are the ones that wear one. It blows my mind that people who wear ties/sport coats/suits etc are often collectively termed ‘stylish’. It just seems like a hijacked term, after all, anyone can be stlye-ish if they follow their own dress code (which could be jogging bottoms and trainers if it suits them).

Thanks for the prompt, James….👇👇👇

My personal taste in ties are Half Windsor or Old Bertie knots (depending on the shirt collar), always tie with the dimple. I tend not to use the placeholder behind the blade either (I’m aware this sounds way too weird now….)

Spot on, good sir. Trying to practice all that you mentioned, and further hone and develop my style. And yes, you're so right that there are a lot of small elements that go into creating a good photo. Cheers to you, sir.

We’ll all get ‘there’ eventually, right? For me, it’s a lot of fun learning!

(Paraphrasing) someone said: of all the artistic mediums, photography is the easiest to learn (just press a button on a box) but the hardest one to have a personal style in (everyone is pressing the same button on a box).

I enjoy seeing your photos - can see a lot of what I mentioned, you’ve already considered

Great narrative and explanation of what is involved in taking good photographs Chung. I have to say I regard you as the Guru on this particular topic along with WasiSabiMaster. Just to remind people, the competition is still running till Friday, people can handle this topic how they like, doesn't necessarily have to be a traditional "take."

Thanks, James - you’re very kind. It’s nice for my ego if I can help and inspire others. It just happens to be a good intersection between passions. Agreed @WabiSabiMaster makes some incredible images and his passion/knowledge really show in his pictures

Truly fun to keep learning, and to keep finding one's own style. I also enjoy seeing your photos. Thanks as always for your encouragement, good sir. Cheers to you! 🍻
