Dangers of wearing an Automatic?

Hey y’all. Some of you might know, I am a one watch guy who daily wears the same automatic watch no matter the circumstance. Is anyone aware of any dangers of doing so? Is it good to stop the watch every once in a while or to let it use up its reserve and stop on its own? Is the wear and tear much higher from always wearing it and having it running? Let me know what you’ve learned on this issue!

I think of it like a car engine. It's designed to run but by doing so it will require servicing as parts wear and perhaps loosen. Leave it unused and the lubricants will coagulate and you'll need a service to re-lubricate. In the scheme of things I don't think it makes too much difference.

Leaving it to stop by itself every now and then won't make any difference either way.

As long as you keep up with regular servicing and don't treat it too roughly you've got nothing to worry about at all.

Wear it and enjoy !! Don’t worry about it!!

🍻😜….

By extension, does leaving a watch in a watch winder shorten the lifespan between service intervals?

·

I’m more concerned about the dangers of the sun but still walk out the door. Wear it because the watch is awesome!!!

Nope, I know plenty of people who have worn their one watch for years and years and years only occasionally adjusting the time.

·

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s made to use daily. So wear it, enjoy it, service it if you need to and buy a new one when you can’t.

·

The only risk is that your other watches will be jealous

I wore an Omega SMP 300 everyday for 15+ years — work, slew, shower, yard work, et. I had it serviced at the 10-yr point to be preemptive, not because anything was wrong.

I’ve had absolutely zero issues with it, bomb proof.
