Grand Seiko’s really are Grand….

I admit that the GS BS marketing pulled me into the brand. All that talk about the sky and trees and lakes and…..crickets 😂 got me hooked in. I’m a sucker for romantic marketing.

But now after owning a couple GS for a little while, I can say with confidence that the marketing is completely backed up by the unique case designs, those gorgeous dials, the insane finishing…..it really makes you feel like you bought into a complete package.

That line about “buying a Rolex to impress others and GS to impress yourself”, I suppose it depends on the person, but there’s no doubt that if you have a Rolex on your wrist, it will get noticed for better or worse, like it or not.

A GS on the other hand, well that’s between you, the watch and any other watch nerds that you may have the pleasure of meeting……and that’s just fine with me.

And than you get to the bracelet and a Grand watch becomes a cheap watch. They really have to fix the bracelets to be called superior to other mass market luxury watch brands. There are literally micro brands in the sub 2K range offering better bracelet and clasps. The worst part are the dive watch clasps. You wouldn’t believe the are charging more than 10K for a watch with that piece of shit as a clasp.

I get your point and I know plenty will agree with you.

But then there are others of us who - while we wish they had micro-adjust, of course! - actually find GS bracelets fine. The one on my SBGA373 looks the part, and fits well as the AD fitted it not once but twice (he said I should come back if it wasn't quite right, and I did). It really doesn't let the watch down as far as I'm concerned.

I live in Malaysia so when it's on the wrist I may be going from airconditioned inside to dining outside in the humidity at night. No problem. The only time it gets a bit tight is when I go to Qatar in the summer, but then that is high 30s and into the 40s, so...

All that said, every watch at this price point should have micro-adjust.
