Cartier great wear.

I bought my wife a cartier tank must small for our 25th wedding anniversary(I was lucky to receive a Omega speedmaster 300 in white from her). My 23 year old son was so impressed with the watch he bought himself the large model. 6 months later I've given in and required a Santos medium to my collection. I always thought Cartier a somewhat fashion type of brand like Gucci etc but how wrong was I? I love the Santos,it is the most comfortable watch to wear and adds something totally unique to my collection. It can easily be worn as a dressy time piece or equally as a casual watch. I wouldn't wear it as my everyday watch though as I baby my watches and I would be terrified of collecting scratches on that bezel.

The bezel will scratch just sitting in some box or other safe spot. It truly is a scratch magnet but I have come to accept the little marks picked up from just living life each day. I no longer wear my first iteration picked up in the late 80s, mostly due to the size which suits my wife better but she does not favour gold and steel watches. You are correct in thinking the watch to be versatile, I think of my older Santos fitted to a black croco strap as my sincere watch worn to somber events when I need to wear a suit or jacket.

I think the bezel will scratch up no matter what you do, so I’d wear it but try to be careful. I have a Santos large but am looking at a medium with blue dial now.

Congrats on the pickup!

Speedmaster 300? Or do you mean Seamaster 300?

Sorry seamaster 300. Stangely it was a tug of war between deciding on the Santos or a speedmaster even though they areso diffeeent. My problem now is as I look to the future j realise its going to be expensive servicing a number of automatic/mechanical watches and so I'm seriously but sadly thinking of selling some of the more affordable watches.

My rule of thumb is "When the watch starts acting wonky, get it serviced."

Manufacturer recommendations are just that; recommendations.

Since we generally do not wear our watches daily and thus they are not running constantly, the recommendations are mostly a bit of CYA for the brands. Add that to the fact that watch lubricants are now synthetic & less prone to breaking down or drying out, it could conceivably be decades before a watch needs a service; outside of drops & the like.

Thanks for advice and I agree. I work away from home 6 months of year and the 6 months I am home I've 10 watches in circulation though I wear around 4 to 5 of them mainly. 6 months of the year I wear one watch a trusty casio g shock. I'm a deep sea fisherman and that watch is the ultimate beater. I've read countless reviews and watched endless you tube videos about which is the vest beater but I'm sure I'm justified in stating that due to the nature of the job this watch goes through the ultimate test- freezing conditions, severe bangs and knocks, muck, salt water on a daily basis. Bang for buck it's unbeatable
