The great thing about this hobby is that it is all based on your own preferences. What looks great to someone might not appeal to someone else. With that being said, my opinion is biased because I am a big Seiko fan.
The alpinist has a dial that you could just get lost in. You also have that internal rotating bezel. According to the specs (Hamilton) though Hamilton has a longer power reserve by about 10 hours (80 hours total) while the alpinist has double the hamiltons diving capability(Alpinist) (20 Bar/200 meters/ 662 feet).
Go with the seiko.
I don't mind the scratches at all if it's a watch that I am actively wearing. To me the scratches are like someone else said above, they are like battle scars. I have an SKX and that has a lot of scratches from life happening. There are two scratches that I got from spelunking which was a wonderful experience with friends. However, I do feel like if I buy a piece as an investment it will be going straight into the safe until it appreciates its value.
