Profound Movements

Do you think we will ever see another movement with a legacy similar to the ETA 2824-2 and its associated variants? It’s been used by entry level luxury brands like Tudor and Tag Huer. There’s numerous grades with different levels of finishing and accuracy tolerances. It’s been used in a variety of brands that tweaked it to suit their purpose. It’s the basis for the Powermatic 80. It bred the Selita SW-200 which micros still up sell as a premium option. It’s been cloned as the Shanghai 2824, Seagull ST2130 and PT5000. Probably others too.

I know the Miyota 82XX had a decent run. I’ve seen a fair number of brands use it, but it’s always been an entry point. As far as I know, no brands have modified or customized it beyond adding a fancy rotor.

Of course, every watch under the sun uses an NHXX. Again, it doesn’t carry the same level of prestige. It’s just kind of expected now. There’s clones starting to appear. Much like the Miyota, I haven’t seen it get any special treatment beyond a rotor.

What do you think? Will we see a decorated NH? Maybe the next iteration of the NH will be high beat? Or have we peaked with what we have. The only advancement being brands with true “in house” movements.

7750 is pretty much THE auto chronograph movement. Although I did just recently learn of the Seagull 1940 an auto version of the ST19. It’s not used much and I’m not sure why.
