Long time fan of watches and well made timepieces, but unfortunately don't have the bankroll to support a collection. Just looking to interact with fellow enthusiasts!

Many years ago (I'm 35 now), my grandfather, being a very thoughtful man, but not one of financial means, bought me a "Rolex" from a flea market because he thought I would enjoy wearing it. He told me at the time that he wished it were real, but he hoped I would enjoy it all the same. I did for a while, and have since retired it as a sentimental item, but I've always said that one day I'd wear the authentic version of that watch, and that would pay homage to the sacrifices that he made for his family over the years. So, a Rolex Datejust in Oystersteel and yellow gold, is my only true grail watch. Others may be prettier or more valuable, but that'll be the only one I set my sights on and will ensure I get it.

I myself am not capable of making that call with only a photo to go off of, but I mentioned to her maybe take it to a jeweler, it may be worth something. Then she got mad and told me she knew it was a fake, she didn't need someone telling her s**t she already knew. It's a common scam around here. Post a watch that some unsuspecting individual can Google (like a multi thousand dollar Patek) that they think they're getting for a steal and then they don't realize they are not only buying a fake watch for $100, but it's also a broken fake watch.
I make it a goal in life to find the best for the least. Good cars can be affordable. Great bourbon doesn't have to cost too much. So I figured why not watches too? I'm excited to see what I can find out there that strikes my fancy harder than my wallet.
I've long been an enthusiast of well made timepieces, but I've never had the financial resources to get into a proper collecting habit. Everything els...
