My (fake) MoonSwatch Mission to Mercury

Forgive me for I am weak, there's no Swatch boutique near by and I wanna see what's the deal was. If it's good and if the Youtubers had said there's a difference in wrist feel between the fakes and the real ones I'd buy the originals (there's a drop shipper who bought a bunch of these from Japan, so he can sell them with a little discount, wonder what magicks he's using). But there's no difference from what Youtube said and even with discounts I'm not wasting my money there ($44 with shipping compared to $260 retail or $195, shipping not included with the scalper with the magic trick.)

Anyway, enough chit chat. Drum roll

Here's the (fake) thing! 🎊🎉

Looks great from where I’m standing.

Looks just as great where I am staring too. Certainly cheap!

Because dugong wants to immortalize his watches, here's the lume shot. Not great but surprisingly even where they applied them.

Sorry about the spot of dimmer lume on the minute hand; I forgot to switch the chrono hand on.

There is a difference between a real and fake one. Not being a snob, just my opinion as I actually tried it. Main points:

  • Real one has sharper edges, not as in harsh, as in more pronounced. Fake one feels like it came out of a subpar mold.
  • Real one has a 10th of a second subdial for the chrono function. Fake one has this subdial with the 10th markings, but actually functions as a 24hr indicator.
  • Real one clicks when you actuate, fake one doesnt.
  • Oddly enough, real one ticks for the chrono seconds hand and fake one emulates a sweep.

I bought a fake one too as an experiment to compare against my real mission to Pluto. Overall I am still glad I bought the real one though, just because it came from the people that designed it.

The real thing....yes its still as fragile, yes its overpriced and yes its extremely frustrating to try and get one. Now take that last sentence and apply to basically any popular watch. If you had $10k would you buy a fake Rolex or wait in line to get one MSRP? Its a hard question, but ultimately this is why people love and hate the moonswatch, it makes us all feel like we cant have what we want even though its within our means. Indeed a 1st world problem.

That said Im not here to judge, the fake and homage watch debate is a complex one at best. But I think youll find the easiest way to not get into these dilemas is to not continue the cycle. Im sure youre not the first or last to try a fake out of curiosity (I just admitted it too!).

I also personally satisfy my WAS (watch aquisition syndrome) by buying parts and building something similar but of my own. Check out my "homies" (I call my self built watches that) on my profile if youd like. Got a sub style and MAS style one. I made them similar enough to get the look but different enough to not come off as a total design copy.

reads @tonmed's excellent points

Meh, I'm good. As I said before, it doesn't effect the wrist feel, ie the feeling when you're wearing one on your wrist so dugong will just wait until MoonSwatches become more widespread if he wants to get one.

Real reason turns out that one guy who bought a bunch of them from Japan? They're all sold out. He was making a killing selling originals online when Swatch didn't which is kinda stupid of them when most of their target audience prefer shopping online.

You could try AliExpress, though I suggest you'd be better off just buying one of Pagani Design Speedmaster clommage.

thank you for the response, ive been looking at aliexpress but can't seem to find one. I like the moonswatch because its an "omega"
