My Father's Watch

Omega Dynamic Geneve (1972), inherited from my dad who passed away in 1987.

By the time I decided to embrace watch collecting as a hobby, the watch had stopped working. It took me a while to find a watchmaker in Singapore willing to restore it. Thanks to various forums, I was also able to find the leather strap replacement, which is unique to this lug-less model.

The result looks exactly like how I remember Pop wore it back in the day.

Great story in time for Father’s Day. I hope one day my girls remember me this way.

Haven't inherited anything yet, as I'm still quite young and my dad isn't showing many signs of ageing. My grandfather had an Omega Seamaster quartz that he received for long service, but that was inherited by my uncle. I did open it up and take the battery out and I wore it for a day (before I knew it was left to him; I gave it back immediately) so I have some connection to it. I want to get a battery for it and a new strap to perhaps encourage my uncle to wear it. Either way, here it is:

That Omega of yours is gorgeous! Amazing space-age design with an excellent story. It looks like a UFO landed on your wrist. Enjoy it.

I guess in 1972 this was considered sporty and edgy.

It's got a kind of sector dial but it's odd shape and lack of visible lugs is what makes it so unusual.

So nice, and ten times better because of the connection with your dad!
