Seiko Macross collaboration watch and a lifetime of anime nostalgia
I have been waiting for the right collaboration between Seiko and a franchise that I love. They came close with a Miyazaki Hayao (director of Studio Ghibli) TV show collaboration watch - if only it was one of the movies! And this time, they have gone and done collaborated with an all time favourite anime series of mine: Macross (I have nothing against Robotech by the way! 😜). Macross seriously tugs at the nostalgia heart strings. Way back when anime was labeled as a “cartoon” and the UK knew oh so little about Japanese culture in general, but especially lacked understanding in anime.

So love for anime back then was like being in a secret club. Those that knew, knew.
A decade later, things got better with the explosive rise of Pokémon, Japanese gaming consoles, Power Rangers and more and more anime. A little too late for my childhood unfortunately. But that didn’t stop me from liking what I liked. How things have changed though…
Apparently nowadays you can write “anime” on your CV / resume without anyone batting an eyelid. It’s mainstream media now. Not for me it fricking wasn’t!! - still a little bitter about that. 😋But at least I get to wallow in nostalgia with all the merchandise which is now highly sought after by OG fans and newer fans alike. So believe me when I say, Seiko has me in their sights with a strong radar lock for this release.
I even have a replica of the exact fictional aircraft that inspired the watch motifs and colours. These Variable Fighters are frequently the subjects of my toy photography (photos above and below) and are the pride of my collection and display.
I have so many reasons to want and love this watch. It was designed with fans like me in mind. I want to love it.
But I really don’t…

Omg I want it bad. CrunchyRoll says it's available for preorder from Premium Bandai, but I can't find it. There are a couple on eBay - I hit the sellers up for information. Eeeeeeeeee

They have only just gone up for pre-order on Premium Bandai. They won’t start shipping until March next year. I hope that you can get hold of one! ☺️

Also the international licensing stalemate for Macross merchandise has ended - I imagine this watch will also be available in PBandai stores worldwide. You might not need to get one from Japan.

Okay I caved and bought one on eBay. Seller supposedly has a confirmed preorder but I guess we’ll see how that shakes out in a few months. Cross your fingers for me!
