Lorus Titanium Field Watch

I popped in to my local jeweller a couple of days ago. It's usually staffed by young women who - with the exception of one - don't seem to know much about timepieces. Luckily the old guy (owner?) was there and he speaks excellent English because he used to live & work in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Anyway, I want the stock flat mineral crystal swapped out for a double-dome sapphire crystal. He confirmed he'd have no problem doing it for me but said sourcing the crystal would be very difficult. I'll need to find one myself.

Here's where I need help. I understand an AR coating is preferable but when I look on AliExpress I'm seeing two varieties; blue & red. Is the colour actually visible? I ask because I think neither would be suitable for this particular watch. I could just go with a clear crystal but that obviously doesn't have the AR coating. I'm also looking for any links to an AliExpress vendor who's reputable. The size should be 30mm x 1.5mm x 2.5mm.

As ever, any and all help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I do realise that, what with the strap I recently bought and a new crystal, I'm basically tripling the cost of this watch but I think it's worth it. It keeps perfect time and it disappears on my wrist and, since it's 22 years old, there's a certain sentimental value attached.

There is also clear AR coating not just blue and red. And i think it's worth the upgrade, you are doing it for yourself.

https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPkrgL2 as an example, comes with all three kinds of AR coating, maybe a bit too tick though at 2.3mm but I am sure you will find one eventually.

Have you considered lightweight acrylic which has the best optical clarity? It's a good pairing for titanium, as neither is exactly scratch resistant. The acrylic can be polished, or eventually cheaply replaced.

I didn't think of that but to be honest the weight at the moment is negligible so it would only be a small saving. I'll keep it in mind though.

Thanks for the link. That one's 4.5mm in the centre which I suspect is a bit too much. I like the way my watch never seems to get in the way of my clothing so bigger is not better.

I actually got the idea from watching this video and I think it's an improvement.

I get you. I did the same upgrade on my old Lorus, but I just went with plain sapphire crystal, no AR coating, basically not changing the original look just making it more durable.
