Citizen BT0080 Review

An affordable versatile watch that you can set it and forget it. The perfect use case for solar technology and the perpetual calendar complication.

Sizing and wearability:

Measuring at 39mm in diameter and 44.5mm lug to lug, this cushion style case watch wears like a 42mm round watch. The thickness is kept at a reasonable 12.7mm with a domed mineral glass crystal. The lug width is 20mm which helps with straps versatility. This watch did come on a decently made bracelet but I think it's still the weaker point of the watch. With 100m water resistance and push pull crown, light water activity can be done without worry.

Movement:

You can’t really go wrong with the Citizen ECO drive movement if you’re looking into solar watches since it’s their bread and butter. Casio Tough Solar and Seiko Solar are also great options. The E310 adds a big date and perpetual calendar function on top which I think it's perfect for a solar watch. So in theory this watch should keep the right date for many years to come as long as it is charged.

Case and Dial:

The cushion shaped case gives off both a classic and modern look. The minimal text on the dial is always nice to see. Some people may be put off by the asymmetry of the dial, but I'm someone who doesn't mind as long as it is done right. It’s hard to explain, but some asymmetry when done right, still retains a pleasing look. It may have something to do with the rule of 3rds in photography. The inner portion of the dial is solar and it gives off a nice texture to the dial. The big date window frame and applied lume markers allows for good depth and dimension to the dial.

Overall:

For someone who needs the date as the primary function for their wrist watch. This solar perpetual big date watch from Citizen is the perfect everyday office watch. It will always be accurate and on the correct date. Just grab and go, the only adjustment you’ll need is during the daylight saving time change.

Never heard of this one. It looks like one of the better looking A. Lange & Sohne models.

Thanks. Yea, the big date definitely gives off some Lange vibes.

Glad you enjoyed it. Yea, Citizen does like no marketing for their watches, which has it's pros and cons.
