Momentum Sea Quartz 30
I ordered this 42mm quartz dive watch online from Momentum’s website. I’d forgotten I’d ordered it to be honest. So it was a nice surprise when it arrived on Thursday at my office.
Originally manufactured by a company called Chronosport and launched in 1977, this stainless steel dive watch was the preferred choice of Magnum P.I. for the first three seasons before the Rolex Pepsi GMT tickled his bushy moustache.
This reboot comes on a hefty jubilee bracelet sized for an elephant and it took my local jeweller 10 minutes with a small hammer to size it for me. 10 minutes and 10 bucks.
It certainly has some heft with a 47mm lug-to-lug case which is 11.3mm thick. As previously mentioned it has a 42mm diameter but it wears smaller somehow. The bezel has 120 satisfying clicks and is uni-directional.
The orange minute hand is a bit confusing at first, but you get used to it. Three Arabic numerals appear at the 12, 6 and 9 o’clock positions with the space for the 3 taken up by a day and date display. This watch was set perfectly out of the box, so I haven’t even tried to unscrew the well guarded screw-down crown.
The indices and numerals are lumed against a matte black dial and the watch is extremely legible. The lume itself is just bonkers with the bezel markers getting a healthy dose of lume also.
The movement is an R507 Ronda quartz. When it arrived at the office, my office manager said: “another watch? It looks exactly like the one you’re wearing!” I was wearing a Tudor Black Bay 58. I fired her.
It’s currently sold out on the Momentum website, but you can sign up (like I did) for the next batch. It’s $399 Canadian. And that’s all I’m going to tell you since it’s a Canadian company.
So far I have bought a Hawaiian shirt and a Ferrari 308 GTS and am desperately trying to grow a moustache. A Texan with a fake English accent let’s me rent a room. The Pepsi is only three years hence.

I really am digging the Monnin Case and the greenish tinge lume.
Now if they'd do a UDT reissue that's a true analog Digi!

Great write-up! 100% agreed on every point though I can't speak to the bracelet since I opted for tropic strap. Very thankful that it does magically wear smaller than 42mm--a good thing indeed for my 6.5" wrist! I do actually wear mine all the time with the red "jungle bird" aloha shirt. I don't see my tribute going as far as a mustache, though. At least not yet.
I am expecting mine to arrive in October. I'm really looking forward to it. I bought the version on the bracelet and opted to add the rubber strap, which I will probably use more often.
