Play in an auction, win prices? Part three

As mentioned in the title this recent acquisition has once again been the result of browsing Catawiki late at night and mindlessly putting a bid in because I liked the way it looked. I did ended up the highest bidder and this is why I am selflessly sharing this NWA with you.

This watch has originally been conceived as a limited edition of 250 celebrating the city of Dokkum. The name stands for Senatus Populus Que Doccumensis. Which translates to leaders and people of Dokkum. It also displays the coat of arms on the caseback. I am not of this city nor do I have any inclination to move there. I simply liked the dial.

The watch has a 21600 bph non-hacking movement. I suspect this to be a Sea-Gull of some kind. The reason I suspect this and not simply checked is because I can not for the life of me open the caseback to check. My three pronged tool doesn't line up and the caseback has been so well tightened (or fused) that it requires an amount of force I'm not comfortable with. It might also be poorly threaded as pointed out by @watchfindsgermany

The AR treated crystal is excellent, it is only visible in the harshest lighting. And is an absolute joy because it really shows of that textured dial with the applied numerals, which are all blue with exception of the twelve in red. The applied indices create a really pleasing depth to the dial. I do really like the way they did this. The strap is a good quality German hand made blue suede leather strap, unfortunately just a bit too large for me. But we can get that sorted with an other strap.

So far, so good. Right? But, I checked and they sell this watch for €295,-/$322,-/£253,- which I find quite steep and frankly extortionate. I payed no where near that amount mind you. Am I too harsh? This watch is, in my opinion, at most a €150,- watch (being a small run and all, I paid less).

It is a Chinese made watch, with some cost cutting (a non hacking movement but with a well executed dial with an excellent sapphire crystal and a good strap. So they went for the best look for the least money.)

And we come once again to the question if we are alright with companies charging a hefty amount for lower quality goods. I'm not sure how I feel about this but it has soured my enjoyment of this watch a bit. Mostly because I feel bad for people who bought this for retail and got, in my opinion, kind of scammed...

Am I thinking too much about this? Do you think I'm absolutely right? Let me know because I'm curious what you all think.

*edit: Removed references to the caseback being aluminium*

That caseback looks like stainless steel to me. No way it's aluminum. It could be that the thread is poorly made and that's why it's hard to open.

Ah, thanks. In that case I'm wrong. It is quite hollow/light sounding and feeling which is why I suspected aluminium 🤝
