Chronograph Tip?

Virtually everyone here should be aware that a mechanical/automatic watch should be wound periodically to keep the moving parts and lubricants well maintained. But maybe some new people could use this tip, even those with quartz chronographs (not digital 😎).

I’ll start by reminding everyone about a video by Federico (Talks Watches) and I think Mark (Long Island Watch) did a watch and learn maybe, about periodically winding each watch. Of course, this takes care of GMTs, Day, Day/Date, etc., but not chronographs. What some may not have realized yet is that even when the watch is running, the chronograph is doing nothing. A chronographs is a completely separate module that just sits there until activated.

I’ve written previously that my practice is to wear a watch three or four consecutive days, and when wearing a chronograph I include running that function for several minutes (usually 12-15) one of those days. I believe that helps keep the chronograph module in good order.

For all those with quartz chronographs that have sweep hands, this would apply to those also as those chronograph modules have similar type moving parts as any automatic.

Anyway, hope this helps out anyone who may be new or maybe new to chronographs.

I try to practice this with my valjoux though admittedly not as often as you as I don’t swap watches everyday.
