Hi & can anybody help?

Hi Everyone, first time posting. I really enjoy watch crunch. Currently wearing my Grand Seiko SBGW 231, I bought it for my 40th bday last year and still love as much as the day I got it.

I was wondering if anyone would have any idea what the Omega Constellation in the photo is worth? I know a jeweller who was going to melt it down and I’m thinking about making an offer to rescue it. He may have already done it but what do you think would be a fair price in AUD? The bracelet is pretty ugly but the watch would look ok on a leather strap. It is automatic, 18k gold, in very good condition and in fine working order.

Sorry about the terrible photo.

You're thinking too hard. Ask what the melt value he expects is. There's just not a whole lot of gold there (at least in the case). I suspect a bluff here, especially if he isn't game to weight the entire thing and give a value pretending the whole thing is solid gold.

I'd offer about a c-note for the bracelet without even investigating.

Hi Oscar, he doesn’t deal in watches at all. He had a client that couldn’t make payment on a custom piece of jewellery. The client offered the watch as part of the payment and the jeweller took the watch for the value of the gold only.

Theres no bluff from him as I know him well. Where it gets messy is he has a watchmaker that he sends people to if they bring watches to his store. The watchmaker told him it is worth a lot of money because it’s omega and gold. As I am into watches he asked if I knew what it was worth. I haven’t been able to find anything like it on chrono24 etc with the little info I have to go on. He probably needs to get it appraised properly. I just wondered if anyone on here knew what it might be worth. I’m currently saving for an aqua terra 38mm white dial. If it wasn’t a crazy price I’d make an offer. If it is I’d tell him to sell it as is. Just seemed a waste to me to melt it down.
