I saw Brock Purdy was wearing a Tudor Metas Black Bay watch on his way to work Super Bowl Sunday. I read he makes 870k a year on his rookie contract and living in San Francisco his rent was 900k a year. 9’ers fans had a go fund me to help him pay his rent.
I have 4 pocket watches that my and my wife's great grandfathers carried. 2 Hamilton’s and a couple Illinois. They are works of art under the case lid. It is amazing the etched detail that one would rarely see. I received them because I am the only one left in my family who is a watch guy. Cherish your ancestors pocket watch. It served him well.
Too bad your Dad tossed the Kinetic. I have one and it stopped working so I put it in a drawer and forgot about it for a few years. One day I was looking for something in the drawer and saw it and pulled it out. I looked it up on youtube and saw a video on swapping out the capacitor and ordered one. I swapped it out myself. It had the smallest screws I have ever worked with but I got it working. I am amazed at how accurate it is. I had never paid much attention to the accuracy before until I purchased a few mechanicals.
Congrats to your Dad on his new watch.
A Seiko Kinetic which I purchased in 1994 was my first quality watch. I was making $9.50 an hour and the watch was $435.00 which was a substantial cost to me for a piece of jewelry. I still have the watch and I replaced the capacitor in it after not running for a few years. I am amazed at the accuracy of it as a time keeper. It is still in pristine condition and it was worn regularly as my only watch. My son remembers going with me when I purchased it, he was very young. It will be his in the future.
Same as I. I bought a Seiko Kinetic like yours but with a white dial in 1994. I was not making much but splurged $435.00 because I wanted a nice watch. It is still working.I had to change the capacitor after all these years. It is my most accurate watch.
