commented onReview: Why you can't fault the Tudor Ranger·
I too read all the negative about the Ranger when it came out. Lot's of people liked it but wow, the people who didn't were loud and proud! A few years ago I stated that I would love to have a Ranger if Tudor only made it in 38-39mm. Well they finally did but with all the negatives written I started half believing them. But I had yet to see one in the flesh. Finally, I saw one at Heathrow airport on my way home. I bought it but was in too much of a hurry to really spend much time with it. I just put it in my bag and headed to my plane for home. Finally back home I was able to get it on my wrist. Best watch purchase in years! Love the simplicity, the starkness, and the modern touch given to this model by Tudor. Looking back on the first negative comments about this Ranger I'm glad I didn't fall for the negative hype. To me this 39mm Ranger is the perfect embodiment of a modern Rolex Explorer 1016.
I'm close to pulling the trigger on this watch. What I love is the cohesion of the light blue dial and the stainless steel bezel. To me this just works! As far as day/date with magnifier; it is what it is. Could a micro-brand bring this type of watch out for this price. Maybe, but I doubt it. Thanks for the "full review"! I have one saved in my watchlist on ebay.
I just bought a Tudor GMT Root-beer with bracelet (NIB) for about $250 over retail. My AD said there were 20 people ahead of me so that meant probably a 2 year wait. I thought the price I paid was worth getting what I wanted now. But I'm seeing prices trending down. Could it be a time of Watch turmoil with falling prices? I don't know. But this is a fine watch that photos really can't show. Not sure why. For my 7.5" wrist it rocks.
I like the Aquaracer line and many of the vintage inspired chronographs. The Aquaracer series are typically 1/2 the price of the Omega Seamaster Diver which is 1/2 price of Rolex Submariner. I don't think you can go wrong with an Aquaracer as long as you know it's not an investment piece and you love the design and colorway. I just bought a NOS Aquaracer 41 mm in Polar White/Automatic. A great watch for $1500!
Both Rolex and Tudor are now lacking a 38-39 mm Field Watch. I bought the Heritage Ranger when I realized it was just discontinued. But now would be a great time for Tudor to bring back the Ranger with a smaller (not too small) size. The only problem being if they did it would probably be wait listed for 2-3 years the way thing have been going. Oh well.
